Interior design is the art or practice of devising, conceiving and drawing, planning, arranging, and supervising the execution of interior architectural space, with consideration for functional human requirements, aesthetics and furnishings.

A designer is a professional that is trained and has expertise in the field of interior design. Their primary role is to work with the client to create a space that is functional for the required operation, cost effective an aesthetically pleasing. We take your raw space and design it around what your needs are; considering flow, costs, aesthetics and building code. Your space is created on paper and then turned over to a general contractor for pricing and construction. A great designer will guide you through the process of design and provide suggestions that will create the ideal space.

The professional interior designer is a person qualified:


– by education, experience and examination;
– to creatively solve problems relating to the built environment in accordance with human needs; and
– to enhance the function of interior spaces for the purpose of improving the quality of life and increasing productivity.

 

The professional interior designer is a person who:


– identifies, researches and creatively solves problems pertaining to the interior environment;
– performs services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics using
specialized knowledge in interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials and
furnishings; and
– prepares all drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health,
safety and welfare of the public.

A professional interior designer’s mandate is to:
– to protect the health, safety and well being of the general public;
– to develop and maintain standards of practice of interior design;
– to encourage excellence in interior design;
– to develop standards of and encourage continuing education of practicing designers; and
– to provide a liaison between the profession and the general public.

Professional fees are determined in relation to the amount of work to be undertaken and the time frame allowed. Fixed fees will be set when the scope of services can be clearly defined (generally be based on a per square foot basis or percentage of construction cost). When the scope of services is not clearly defined fees are based on hourly rates.

Four Squares Licensed Interior Design hourly rates:
– Principal, licensed interior designer $150.00/hr
– Senior designer $90.00/hr
– Intermediate designer/senior drafter $70.00/hr
